The rising numbers of the online social media community is enticing. Business owners the world over are lining up their plans to tap into these numbers, all incorporating social media marketing strategies in one way or another. People are more apt to click on a link that has been recommended by people who they share an affinity with (i.e. people from the same social network) than they would a random hit on a search engine. Linkages often set off a chain reaction, and the number of clicks a URL has will double up over itself, and more clicks naturally mean more traffic for your page.

That said, visits are not important in and of themselves. Which brings us to the second reason social media optimization is essential: the fact that it promotes people to stay and explore your page, as opposed to only looking at the main page. Social media page owners need to make sure that the content in their pages encourage visitors to actually browse through the site. There are various ways to make visitors more inclined to do this:

-          Providing user friendly navigation to make it easier for visitors to go through the site.

-          Offering ample and useful information, making sure essential details about the business and yourself is made known.

-          Offering personal information through articles, videos and podcasts about you to build trust and to give the message that they are dealing with an actual person.

-          Using designs that are pleasing and attractive to the eye.

A clever combination of any and all of these according to your particular business is a surefire way of increasing web traffic.
